A Little Bit About Me:
I am very excited to have your child in my class! The fourth grade curriculum is challenging and I am looking forward to assisting my students as they develop a more robust understanding of math, science, social studies, and language arts concepts as well as preparing them for the rigors of fifth grade and beyond. Having been a fifth grade teacher for many years, I know just what my students will need to be successful next year and into middle school.
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself. This will be my twenty - fourth year teaching at Carroll Manor. I can’t believe how the time has flown by! I absolutely love this school, and couldn’t imagine teaching anywhere else! I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Mt. St. Mary’s University and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology, also from the Mount.
On a more personal note, my husband and I recently built a home out in the country near Middletown. We absolutely love it here! We call our home Bella Loma because it has a stunning view of Lamb’s Knoll. Bella = beautiful; Loma = knoll.
I am the proud mother of two daughters. My eldest daughter, Jess, graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Maryland in College Park, with two Bachelor’s Degrees - one in History and the other in Government and Politics. After that, she graduated with highest honors from Seattle University School of Law, and then went on to get a Master’s Degree in International Law from George Washington University. Jess is currently an attorney at a federal agency and her brilliant husband, Matt, is an engineer for a very large on-line company. Jess is also a very successful writer. Her work has been cited in text books and several of her papers have been published in legal review periodicals. Jess and Matt live in Arlington, VA.
My youngest, Lilah, graduated at the top of her class from Towson University, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology. She then went on to get her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Johns Hopkins University. She is currently a model teacher, teaching math intervention for Baltimore City Public Schools and is currently working on her Doctorate Degree in Urban Education, from North Eastern University. Lilah is married to her wonderful husband, Taylor, who is an engineer for a major firm in Baltimore. Lilah and Taylor welcomed their first child, Josie, in late March of 2020 and their second child, Elliott, in late May of 2022. They are bright, happy children who are the delight of the entire family!
Education has always been highly prized in my family, as I’m sure it is in yours. It is my firm belief that with a good education, a child can grow up to achieve any dream. It is my hope that your child will have a fulfilling and challenging fourth grade year and I will do everything in my power to make sure that they are well prepared for fifth grade.
Sincerely,
Mary Dwyer-Caban
